Let me introduce you to Beautycounter’s Never List which is made up of more than 1,800 questionable or harmful ingredients that we never use as ingredients in our products. 1,800! This includes the over 1,400 chemicals banned or restricted in personal care products by the European Union plus additional chemicals found by Beautycounter to be concerning. If it’s questionable, then it’s not used.

Are Beautycounter Products Clean?
One of the things I love about Beautycounter is their transparency. They are very clear about what is and what is NOT in their products. Some ingredients on the Beautycounter Never List include:
Parabens – Hormone disruptors that are found in shampoo, body wash, face wash, lotion, foundation.
Phthalates – Plasticizing chemicals used to make products stick better to your skin which disrupt hormones and may cause birth defects.
Oxybenzone – Sunscreen agent and UV light absorber linked to irritation, allergies, and possible hormone disruption can be found in sunscreen and moisturizers.
Formaldehyde – Used as a preservative in cosmetics. Yikes! A known carcinogen that is linked to asthma, neurotoxicity and developmental toxicity. Found in shampoo and body wash.
Hydroquinone – A skin lightening chemical that is linked to cancer, organ toxicity, and skin irritation.Â
If you’d like to read the entire Never List, you can do so here! It would take me all day to list out all 1,800 questionable ingredients that are on the list but reviewing the list is a great place to start if you are thinking about making some changes in your skincare and beauty routines!Â
Beautycounter ingredients are sourced with a higher standard of safety and quality in mind, however it is well-known by regulatory authorities around the world in the industry that trace levels of a chemical may find their way into a cosmetic product because of the complexity of the manufacturing process. Beautycounter works incredibly hard to minimize the possibility of a chemical from the Never List getting into our products but it is, unfortunately, a possibility that we cannot totally eliminate. Like I said before, as close to perfect as you can get, though! 🙂Â
If you’ve found yourself wondering about certain products and wanting to understand more about the ingredients in them, props to you! You are definitely taking a step to safer skincare. A good app that can be helpful is the Think Dirty app which rates the ingredients in many popular personal care products. You can download it straight to your phone and use it on the go when you are out and about.Â
